Hello Okemo families, I hope you’re enjoying what has certainly been one of the best winters I have seen in the last 25 years here in VT. Recently OMS womens head FIS coach John Tyler turned me onto an awesome podcast called “The Next Turn” with Martin Wilson. There are 2 of these that I feel are really immediately relevant to parents of alpine ski racers; an interview with US Ski and Snowboard Sport Education Director Gar Trayner and High Performance Director for Alpine Canada Phil McNichol, and the other, an interview with US team World Cup skier and winner of the the 2020-21 Bormio SG, Ryan Cochran Siegle. I reached out to Gar to say how much I really enjoyed the interview and, being the cool guy that he is, he offered to do a follow up Q and A for Okemo families on Saturday 3/13 at 6pm EST. Joining Gar will be US Ski and Snowboard Club Development Manager Ellen Adams. “Adams has an extensive background in management and leadership in sports, recreation and education. She has played the role of coach, parent, official and athlete in ski racing and has been actively engaged with the skiing and snowboarding community for many years. Most recently, Adams served as program director for the National Ability Center (NAC) in Park City, UT. She played an instrumental role in establishing the NAC as an internationally renowned leader in adaptive recreation and Paralympic sport.”
If you are an engaged Okemo ski racing parent who cares about your child’s success and enjoyment of the sport please do 2 things:
- Listen to these two podcasts this week- https://www.thenextturnpodcast.com/
- Take this great opportunity to have a conversation with Ellen and Gar and share experiences and thoughts on what it means to be a parent in this crazy, awesome world of ski racing.
