***Midd Race Reg Glitch – I have just found out that 4 Okemo athletes were inadvertently withdrawn from the Middlebury race due to a glitch in adminskiracing. U12 Tall Gate SL Race at Pico – Sunday 2/23:
Don’t forget you must pre-register online at the link above – don’t forget! Pico is an easy and fun mountain for a race. Use the Base Lodge to get ready and store your gear. The Base Lodge is to the far right as you look up at the mountain. We are not able to use the Pico Ski Club Building (far left near the race trail) or the Andrea Mead Lawrence Building (in the middle). The race is on B Slope which is serviced by a lift right next to it.
On Sunday, athletes should find the coaches on the ground floor of the Base Lodge between 7:50 and 8:00 am to get their bibs and tickets. This area is pretty small, so just look for athletes/coaches in Okemo gear – when in doubt ask someone. Athletes will then re-group with coaches in front of the Pico Ski Club Building at the Bottom of B Slope (the race hill) – dressed and ready to ski, with all SL armor on – at 8:10 am! They will warm up and load the lift at 8:15 am to go for inspection and free runs. First run starts at 9:30 am. Running order is a random sort, but all girls will run first, then boys. Athletes should listen to their coaches for info on second run inspection and start time. Running order will be in reverse for second run, but with girls still first. After the end of the second run, the course will stay up for 30 minutes of untimed training runs. Awards in front of the Ski Club Building immediately after the end of the untimed training runs.
Family tickets $75 AND MUST BE PURCHASED ONLINE HERE – only two per racer are allowed. They must be picked up in the upstairs of the Andrea Mead Lawrence Lodge prior to 8:30 am (which is in between the Pico Ski Club and The Ski Shop/Main Lodge) – again MUST have been pre-purchased.As many of you know, the race can be viewed on foot without lift access.
Driving directions to get to Pico: Head north on Rt. 100 – make a right to stay on Rt. 100 just before Jackson Gore. Turn left on Rt. 4 and go past the Skyeship gondola for Killington and past the Killington access road. About 2 miles past that, you will see The Inn at Long Trail on your right – Pico will be on your left just down the hill. It takes about 35-45 minutes to get there. Beware of cops in Plymouth on Rt 100 when the speed limit drops!!
Let me know if you have any questions and think snow!
Best,
Mariel
