U12 and U10 Weekend of 1/31 and 2/1

Hello U12 and U10 Families,
Hope everyone is having a great week and that those of you “down south” have been able to dig out from all of the snow – while you are at it, pack some up and bring it here :)!  We did get a nice little storm of about 8 inches of very fluffy stuff, but would love some more!
Another busy weekend, so please read carefully:

Saturday 1/31: U12s race GS at Pico (see below for details); U10s are home training on SL skis.
Sunday 2/1: Second year U12s (2003 YOB) who have signed up will do the SG camp (see details below); Other U12s and U10s will be training according to normal schedule on SL skis.
Looking ahead:
Friday 2/6: SL Camp at Quechee – must enter lottery through email request sent earlier this week.  Stay tuned…results of lottery and details to come.
Saturday 2/7: U10s race stubby SL at Quechee; U12s train stubby SL at home
Sunday 2/8: U12s race stubby SL at Quechee; U10s  train GS at home.

Pico U12 GS Race on Saturday, January 31st Details:
Registration: 7:30 am in the upstairs of the Andrea Mead Lawrence Lodge, which is in between the Pico Ski Club and The Ski Shop/Main Lodge (same as last year, but was new then).  Have your athlete register themselves please!

Entry fee is $30 (payable in cash or check payable to Pico Ski Club only), which includes your athlete’s lift ticket.  Again, please remind athletes to put their bibs on immediately and do not lose them!
We still have to leave our bags and get ready downstairs in the Main Base Lodge (park on the right hand side of the main parking lot and go straight through the condos – base lodge is on the right).
Please note: Parent lift tickets are available for $45 but only two per racer are allowed. They must be purchased at the main ticket office between the parking lot and the base lodge – NOT at registration. In the past they have only been sold until 9:00 AM and you had to know your child’s bib number – be prepared! As many of you know, the race can be viewed on foot without lift access.

We will meet the athletes at the base of the B-slope lift/bottom of the race trail (go out of the base lodge and go left if you are facing the mountain) at 8:20 am to go for a free run and inspect the course.
The race is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am and will take place on B-Slope – to the left of the base lodge if you are looking up at the mountain. The jury will determine whether or not there will be a re-set and a second run inspection time and start time will be announced.  Athletes should stay aware of how the race is proceeding and listen to announcements and their coaches.
Awards will take place in front of the ski club, which is basically at the finish area.  Depending on conditions and what time the race ends, we may try to get in a Freeski or other fun activity before awards.  Just listen for announcements!

Driving directions to get to Pico: Head north on Rt. 100 – make a right to stay on Rt. 100 just before Jackson Gore. Turn left on Rt. 4 and go past the Bear Mtn. gondola for Killington and past the Killington access road. About 2 miles past that, you will see The Inn at Long Trail on your right – Pico will be on your left just down the hill. It takes about 35-45 minutes to get there. Beware of cops in Plymouth on Rt 100 when the speed limit drops!!

U12 Super G Camp at Okemo Sunday 2/1:
***Remember that you had to sign your child up for this with me and your child has to be born in 2003 to participate.***
Athletes should wear their GS suits like a race day (but have warm clothing over it!) and be on their GS skis for this event.
Just like race day, there will be a registration in the upstairs of the Competition Center.   Registration is from 7:15-8:15 am.  Entry fee for the camp will be $20 for Okemo racers ($40 for others).  Athletes should register and get their bib (they have bibs even though it isn’t a race) and then meet in the basement of the Summit Lodge for the camp meeting at 9 am sharp – be early.
They will be with the camp all morning, have lunch from about 11:45-12:30 and then be back with the camp until 3 pm.  Much easier logistically than a typical race day.
See you all this weekend!
Thanks,
Mariel
