End of the Year Open Race info for U12s plus training through 1/4

Hello U12 and U10 Families,
I hope this email finds you all well and enjoying the holidays!  Just wanted to get out the information for the End of the Year Open on Tuesday, 12/30.   BEWARE that if you child isn’t current with VARA they will be kicked out of the race….although I think the online reg system makes sure they are already.
Just to reiterate, training for the week (unchanged from last week’s info):
Monday 12/29GS skis.  Full gate training for those athletes who are fundamentally ready for it and/or racing in the End of the Year Open.
Tuesday 12/30: End of the Year Open (see details below).  No training for those not racing – take the day to enjoy some freeskiing with your children or let them have a day off to rest – it is a long week of training.
Wednesday 12/31SL skis (no armor) – freeskiing, drill, and more Skills Quest.
Thursday 1/1: No Training
Friday 1/2: Team Dual Race with all age groups.  U12 and U10s are best off on GS skis (if they have both).  Meet at the yurt/gate shack at 9:30 am.  The dual event will go until about 11:30 or 12 and then we will be done for the day.
Looking ahead 1/3 and 1/4 will be regular schedule…
Saturday 1/3: SL skis for Skills Quest and stubby SL training (no armor necessary – shin guards only if desired).
Sunday 1/4: GS skis – GS gate drills and gate sections
Race day info for Tuesday 12/30 for the U12s who are entered into the End of the Year Open:
Registration is in the Competition Center (upstairs near Marcia and Pete’s office) from 7:00-8:15 am – DO NOT BE LATE!  The race is overfilled and if your child is not registered by 8:15 am his/her spot will be given away.  Please have them put their bib on immediately – over their GS suit, under their jacket.
Coaches will meet the kids at the bottom of Wardance (yurt/gate shack area) at 8:15 am to go for a free run and an inspection.
The first run will begin at 9:30 am. The U12s will run first in the running order; all U12 girls and then all U12 boys.  Their bib number will reflect their start number.  Second run will likely be reverse order within gender and age group.  Still all U12 girls and then all U12 boys before U14s etc, but the last U12 girl will go first and so on.
There will be a reset for the second run.  Therefore your children will need to listen to coaches and announcements from the timing building on when to meet up for a second run inspection, which will be shortly after the conclusion of the second run.  Barring any changes, second run inspection will be a half hour after then end of the first run and second run will be one hour after the first run.  The awards are done by combined time and will be shortly following the second run in the scoreboard area.  Unless there are concerns about weather or length of the race, all first run DNFs and DSQs will get a second run.
Let me know if you have any questions!
