Weekend Update 4/5; Ever Float in a Big Slurpee ?

Hello OMARA Families,

Slurpee?  Think of yourself as a cherry atop a frosty convenience store drink.  The annual Slush Cup event is scheduled for today, Saturday April 5th (see below).  For anyone participating, please send along your photos and video — successful or soggy efforts appreciated.

Here’s the latest snapshot on some additional information that you might find of interest.

See you on the slopes,

–  Okemo Closing Day
Closing day is set for April 13th — marking 152 ski days for the 2013-2014 season.  While not the longest season on record, I’m sure  few will doubt that finishing out this year with near 90% of the mountain in skiable condition is remarkable.   For some, hopes remain that the ski season will never end. However, for most families, the move onto greener pastures (i.e. sports fields and golf courses) is well underway.   Each year Okemo puts  thought into the closing date –and  for this season, the number of visitors will run out much quicker than the snow.  Okemo has appropriately decided to finish the year on a high note.

Saturday, April 5th
The Slush Cup presented by Amp Energy Drink and Splash for Cash
The coveted Slush Cup is back in combination with the Splash for Cash. Only those with skills like a boat will stay afloat in the 80 foot long slush pond. Contestants will dress to impress in their goofiest costumes. The Splash for Cash is a new event, taken to new heights. Participants send it off a kicker and then take the plunge into the slush pond. Why?! To get their hands on some cold, hard cash that will be dangling overhead. Go big and get wet!

Killarney Tug-of-War
Get together a team of 6-8 strong bodied individuals (at least one female per team) and tug another team into the slush pond! The winning team receives $200! Registration for the Tug-of-War is free! This event will take place immediately following the Splash for Cash which we anticipate to be 3 p.m.

BBQs and Live Music
Join us at the Roundhouse and Sugar House on March 29, 30 and April 5 (Roundhouse-only) for some great live music and food cooked outside on the grill!

Congrats to all on a stellar year.  Okemo athletes posted strong results in several age groups and across most disciplines.  The Competition Center successfully hosted a remarkable line-up of events; from well-regarded races, freestyle and snowboarding events for juniors  to the 2014 Masters National Championships. These events showcased the spirit of our mountain and program.

Saturday , ehh …. but don’t fret, Sunday looks to be a beautiful day — sunshine and temps in the high 40s.   Click the link (above, in blue) for an up-to-date view.

Spring skiing near its best.  For Saturday, 118 of 120 trails are open, with a base reported at  24”-40”.

 And staying in tune?
As always, please consult with our local shops.  They’ve been great partners throughout the year —  consider talking with them about end of season equipment care.  For those folks who are still free-skiing, no need for race tunes — but some fresh wax might not be a bad idea.  Think yellow.

OVRCC Calendar

Please use the link above to access a myriad of local activities.   Long after that last patch of snow has melted, a wealth of activities remain available across the region.  We thank the Okemo Valley Chamber for their support this year.  I’m looking forward to growing our relationship in the year ahead.
