National Club Day 021514

On Saturday, February 15, 2014  Okemo Mountain Alpine Racing Association (OMARA) will be celebrating the first annual National Club Day with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) recognizing over 400 skiing and snowboarding clubs across the nation. National Club Day is also an acknowledgment of the partnership between OMARA, Okemo, OMS and the USSA.

OMARA is pleased to celebrate more than twenty years of service to the athletes, families and coaches of Okemo Mountain Snow Sport Competition Programs.  With approximately 400 athletes, OMARA is one of the largest clubs in the U.S. Our youth participants and alumni have delivered high level performances at regional, national and world competitions. (Alumni include Julia Ford and Hannah Teter, two members of the Sochi Olympic team.)  Beyond athlete development, OMARA also fosters camaraderie among its members and a life-long passion for snowsports.

Members of the community are invited to come join us, learn more about OMARA and show their support for our athletes. As part of this event OMARA will be participating in a continuous coast-to-coast snowsport parade with clubs across the country in honor of the OMARA and the U.S. Ski Team, U.S. Snowboarding and U.S. Freeskiing athletes competing in the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.  Over the course of the day, the virtual parade will traverse from New Hampshire to Aleyska, Alaska. Also, we’ll have poster-board cards on hand for delivery to Julia, Hannah and the rest of the team representing us at the Sochi Olympics.

Location and Timing
OMARA’s segment of the parade will take place between 9.40 and 10.00 am on the Wardance Trail at Okemo’s main mountain. Wardance is most easily accessible via the Black Ridge triple or Northstar high speed quad.
In a sign of support for our young athletes and the US team representing us in Sochi, we’re asking all families to come out adorned with some red, white and blue.

On Saturday morning, all athletes will meet according to normal plans (as always, stay up-to-date with individual coaches’ blog posts for details).  Shortly after 9 am all groups will proceed with their coaches and assemble near the top of Wardance.  We’ll be small distributing flags to all athletes prior to kicking off the brief ski parade at 9.40 am.  We’d ask that parents show their support as spectators near the finish area of the Wardance trail.  Posterboard cards for our Okemo Olympians — Julia Ford and Hannah Teter —  will be awaiting signatures at the bottom of the trail.  Donald Dill and Okemo’s videographer will be on hand to capture the event.
