DEVO – Weekend Update 2/26-2/28

Hello All,

Well, we are getting massive amounts of snow right now!  Yay!!  That being said everything that you are about to read is subject to change due to the weather…PLEASE READ CAREFULLY ANYWAY:

OK so info about the upcoming weekend:

Friday 2/26 is the Stubby Slalom Camp at Quechee.  For those attending, the day will proceed similar to a race day with the exception of the fact that once you have registered your child, they are with the coaches for pretty much the rest of the day.

You should plan to arrive at Quechee at 8 am to register your child – it is about a one hour drive (see directions in the race details below).  For those of you who have skis at ski shops and won’t be able to get up early enough to get them on Thursday (6 pm for most shops), let me know if you need help.  I can load a bunch in my car and bring them over to Quechee because you won’t be able to get them early enough on Friday morning.

The day will go until about 3 pm.  The last activity will be an ice cream social around 2:45 pm.  Lunch is not provided – your child must bring their own or buy from the cafeteria.

The weather may force us to cancel – the call will be made tomorrow – please stay tuned!

Saturday 2/27:
Both Okemo 1 and 2 are racing Stubby Slalom at Quechee.

Registration is in the basement of the base lodge from 7:30-8:30 am.  The entry fee for the race is $25.

We will meet the kids at 8:25 am in front of the base lodge to go for free runs and inspection.

The first run starts at 9:45 am and the second run will start about 5 minutes after the completion of the first.  This is a small race, so be prepared for it to go quickly and to help your children get around for their second run.

Directions to Quechee:
Take 100 North (the right hand turn before Jackson Gore).  In Plymouth, take a right onto 100A.  When this dead ends at Rt 4, take a right.  This will go through Bridgewater and Woodstock – watch for cops in both towns! The speed limit goes down to 25 twice – obey the speed limit.  Once you have passed though Woodstock, continue a few miles into Taftsville and look for a left that will take you to a covered bridge – the street name is either River Rd. or Quechee Main Street.  You will take this left (it is across from the General Store) and go through the covered bridge.  Then bear right and follow Quechee Main Street until you see the resort on the left hand side.  Parking is on the left – either by the barns or after the white building, which is the base lodge.

Sunday 2/28: Both teams are training at home.  Right now it looks like we will do the 8:30-10am/11-1pm schedule, but this is subject to change depending on weather.  We will either train GS or just freeski all day, in which case it will be a “powder day” so rock skis or twin tips.  I will let you know!

Ok that’s all for now – again I wanted to get the details to you now, but everything is subject to change because of the unpredictability of the weather.

Thanks,
Mariel
