Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

Hey Folks,

I know not all of you were planning on making the trip up this weekend, especially those of you who do not have programs meeting this weekend.

J1 & J2’s & J3’s will meet at 8:00 AM by the A/B Quads on Saturday and Sunday.

The Council & Freestyle teams are on a similar schedule.

The mountain will be opening with VERY LIMITED TERRAIN.

Skiing at appropriate speeds for the situation are strongly encouraged by the staff and Ski Patrol. Please be courteous to others.

Our groups will be on the hill until about 10:00 AM each day. They will be freeskiing only.

Okemo will be opening Thursday at 9:00 AM.

Spread the word!

Thank you and have a great Thanksgiving!

Welcome to 2011-2012

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Hello all and welcome back to Okemo for another season!

Whether you are joining us for the first time this season, or working on your second (or third) decade, we have been working hard to make Okemo Competitions and OMARA one of the best and biggest skiing, riding and freeski programs in the country.

We have some changes for 2011-12 and here’s a quick, and incomplete, rundown of them.

Freestyle Skiers and Snowboards will be pleased to find the park on Timberline has moved to Blackout.  The lift access via the Black Ridge Triple and The Pull will dramatically improve the number of laps you can make in a day.

This opens Timberline back up for your cruising pleasure.  It also means Race Arena will be returning to Bull Run.  Actually, it will start on Lift Line and curve back to Bull Run and finishing just above the base of the A Quad.  Kudos to the Okemo crews who are moving the snowmaking tower, clearing trees and moving some dirt around for us to make this happen!

New to the cast of coaches this year is Bruce Johnston, he will be heading up the J3′s as well as serving as our Head Coach.  Bruce comes to us full of energy and ready to go for the season!

Photos of our events will be taken, once again, by Donald Dill.  He’s been the photographer of our events for quite some time.  With the departure of Photos by Reflex, Donald will be handling the photos himself.  All of them will be available on Donald’s web page at smugmug.  The direct link is here: http://tootsie.smugmug.com/

That is all for now, stay tuned for more updates!

Fit Day – September 18, 2011

Friday, September 9th, 2011

It’s that time of year again – time to gear up for the upcoming winter at the annual OMARA Fit Day!

In conjunction with Fit Day, we are doing a FitNESS Day on Saturday, September 17th from 9 am – 11:30 am.  The location will be in the Jackson Gore Courtyard or the Ice House (in case of rain).  This session will be run by Bruce Johnston, the new OMS Athletic Program Director and J3 coach, but is open to anyone of any age in the Okemo Competition Program – alpine, freestyle, or snowboard athletes.  We will conduct a fun and light workout with some mock physical testing and balance and agility work that applies to all winter sports.  Athletes should wear sneakers and comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle.  This is not a mandatory session, but will be a lot of fun!

On Sunday, September 18thwe will be having our annual Fit Day in the Jackson Gore Courtyard from 9 am – 1 pm.  There will be this year’s newest alpine and freestyle skiing equipment on display with boots available to try on.  Many local shops will also be there through whom you will be able to place equipment orders for the upcoming season and take advantage of competition pricing, which represents a significant savings.  The snowboard program will have a separate fit session later in the fall.  If you have any questions regarding equipment for your child, please contact his/her respective coach or Bruce Johnston or Mariel Meringolo are always available to help.

2011 Wrap-up from Eric

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

Hey Folks,

Thank you for another fantastic year on the snow!  As the season thinks about switching over to Spring and eventually Summer, and we all dust off our golf clubs, lacrosse sticks and soccer cleats, I just want to pass along a couple of messages.

First, Thank You!!! to all of you who volunteered throughout the season, whether it was coaching, race crew, registration, scoreboard duty, bib collection, bib sorting, all of your efforts are appreciated and help make this (more…)

Thanks for a great season!

Monday, March 14th, 2011

On behalf of all the Hopeful coaches, we would like to thank all the kids and parents for a fantastic Hopeful program this winter! We all enjoyed skiing with the kids each week and we were so lucky to have such great conditions to enable us to expose the kids to a huge variety of terrain and challenges. Which, I am happy to say, all the kids undertook with passion. We were so proud to watch our athletes in the race course on Saturday and to see their progression from mid December until now. Bravo! We wish everyone a great spring and summer and look forward to seeing you all on the hill next December! Thanks again!!

The Hopeful Coaches

PS. The annual OMARA Fit Day usually takes place on a Sunday in early to mid September, I will post details in late August. This is a good opportunity to try on and get sized up for equipment for the coming season, orders can be placed that day with the local ski shops.

Hopefuls Update Weekend 3/5

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

Hi All, It is hard to believe that our Hopeful season is coming to a close. It has been a fantastic year in many way with unbelievable snow conditions, we’ve had a record number of Hopefuls athletes and have seen some awesome skiing with lots of amazing improvements with all the athletes.

This Saturday 3/5 we will meet at the Sugar House at 9 am for morning and afternoon training. The following Saturday 3/12 is our last race and pizza party. That day we will meet on our usual race day schedule 9 am at the Sugar House, race begins at 10 am. After the race we will have a pizza party and awards, location to be announced next week.

UPDATE ON TEAM JACKETS for HOPEFULS: Unfortunately, the fabric for our jackets has been out of stock and the manufacturer has not been able to make our deadline. Following is an update from Leigh and Ellen who have been spearheading the jackets this year.

Due to delays from the fabric manufacturer, the Hopeful team jackets will not be ready before the end of the season. We are all disappointed, but given these delays, we have canceled the order. We WILL order jackets next season, so stay tuned in December for the chance to get the jackets. For this season, we will be returning all the money. If you paid by check, we will rip it up. If you paid by cash, we will be available before and after Hopefuls skiing each Saturday for the next 2 weeks to return your $$$. Leigh and Ellen will be at Sugar Shack at 8:45 am and 2 pm each Saturday. We will take a table close to the entrance. If you do not remember if you paid cash or check, or if you have any other questions, please email Leigh at: lshemitz@gmail.com.
Thanks, and think snow.

We are all sorry for disappointing the kids but things should go better when we order earlier next year.

See you all on Saturday.
