Weekend Update; 3/1

Hello OMARA Families,

Here’s the latest snapshot of information that you might find of interest.
See you on the slopes,

BH –

Congratulations to Julia Ford on her 24th place finish in last Friday’s women’s slalom at Sochi. Couple that performance with Hannah Teter’s fourth place finish in the snowboard halfpipe event and Okemo made an outstanding showing in Sochi.

– OMARA / USSA National Club Day
Video of our parade will be airing on Ludlow Community Public TV starting this weekend.  Thanks to Okemo staff, including videographer Timothy Lawrence for bringing the piece together. I’ll pass along a web link shortly.   The video will be used by USSA this spring and fall.  Once again, thanks to all for support and participation.

– OMARA Membership Books and our new co-branded OMARA / Okemo Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce Membership Cards  are available from Christy Danforth.  Christy can be reached at [email protected].

– Comedy Night
Was it good? No, better than that.  Crazy Jake and Bob Marley kept the sell-out crowd laughing throughout.  So, for those thwarted when hoping to buy tickets at the door, here’s advanced warning … mark your calendars now for next year’s event, Saturday, February 21, 2015.

Sincere thanks to our friends at Vermont Properties and Development, Inc. for their generous financial support and commitment in bringing the program together.  Proceeds from the event are being donated to the OMARA building initiative.  Thanks to Okemo Mountain for providing the venue and also, thanks to our many contributors for the raffle.

Saturday, March 1: Ski Vermont Specialty Foods Day!
Ski Vermont and the Agency of Agriculture are welcoming skiers and riders to sample local foods. Once again Cabot Cheese, the Vermont Maple Sugar Maker’s Association, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters will be sampling tasty Vermont products. New, this year to the line-up is local company O.W.L. Bars, Cedar Hollow Farms, and Vermont Spirits. Visit the Mobile Sugar Shack, located in the Jackson Gore Courtyard to sample some of Vermont’s best.

Tuesday, March 4: PHAT Tuesday at Okemo!
It’s Mardi Gras, Okemo style. Vermont’s own PHAT (Protect Your Head at All Times/Protect Your Head on All Terrain) team will be on hand to extol the virtues of wearing a helmet while skiing and riding. They’ll have stickers, posters and helmet raffles. Ten strings of Mardi Gras beads will be hidden along ski trails for a PHAT Tuesday Scavenger Hunt with prizes. The Sitting Bull Restaurant will be serving up some Mardi Gras specials for après ski.

Saturday and Sunday will be bracketed by colder temps on Friday and Monday.  Look for light snow at various points across the next several days.  Click the link (above, in blue) for an up-to-date view.

As of this writing, 117 of 120 trails now open. (Outrage, Double Diamond and Super Nova closed). In addition to another coating of 1-2” of natural flakes, snowmaking has been underway on numerous trails including those in/around including Solitude, Lower World Cup and Lower Mountain Road.

 And staying in tune?
As always, please consult with our local shops.  For me, cooler temps and recent snow conditions are suggesting violet.
