U12 and U10 Weekend Training 1/17 and 1/18

Hello U12 and U10 Families,

First of all, the coaches and I want to pass along our congratulations to all of our U12 athletes on a job well done at the Quechee Skills Assessment!  I think all of the athletes enjoyed the day and got to meet some new friends from other mountains.  We saw all of the hard work the athletes have put into training pay off in great performances at each of the tasks!  They made us all very proud!
A special congrats to all of the U12s who brought home some hardware:
Erin Kelleher brought home the silver for the girls, followed by Ava Comey in 4th and Katie Killian in 10th.  Sophie Brett was just out of the medals in 12th!
Brennan Hynes brought home gold for the boys!!  He was joined on the podium by Drew Visnic in 3rd.  Also bringing home medals were John Kelleher, Freddie Brogden, and Seth Tobin in 4th-6th respectively.  Joe Flaherty and Quinn Riordan were just out of the medals tied in 13th.

Now for the coming weekend’s training…
U12 and U10s will train GS both Saturday 1/17 and Sunday 1/18.  We will freeski in the AM and train gates in the PM.  There will be drill courses with brushes as well as full gates.
We will not be training on Monday 1/19 – enjoy the day freeskiing with your children if you are able to be here.
Looking ahead to next weekend:
Saturday 1/24: U10s will race GS at Killington (more info to come as always) and U12s will train GS at home.
Sunday 1/25: U12s will race GS at Killington (more info to come as always) and U10s will train SL at home.
Some important upcoming dates/events (no action needed now – just save the dates!):
Sunday, February 1st: U12 Super G camp at Okemo – SECOND YEAR U12s (2003 birth year) ONLY – athletes must use their regular GS skis, NOT SG skis.
I will send info sheet for this event, which includes cost (though for our kids it is half price), registration info, and the days’ schedule shortly.  I need to have a confirmed list for this event, so at that point I will need you to email me to confirm your athletes attendance, but not now.  If I don’t hear from you, I won’t plan for them to be at the camp and will assume they are doing regular training that day.  If your child isn’t comfortable with attending or does not want to, this is totally fine!  More info and sign-ups to come – please do not email me now!
Friday, February 6th:  MVC U12 and U10 Slalom Camp at Quechee. This is tons of fun each year! I will send out an email requesting sign ups to enter a lottery in a week or so, but just wanted to get it on your calendar.   Each year the camp fills very quickly, so we do a lottery system for entry.  You will have a 48 hour window to enter the lottery and then participants will be selected randomly.  I anticipate being able to bring at 20-30 athletes. Please do not email me now to sign up!
February 9 – 13th: OMS Valentine Victory Camp – This is similar in format to the Holiday Hammer Camp, but will be open to all U12/10s including first years. I will send out A TON of info on this next week in a separate communication (didn’t want info overload today), but the basics are that it is 3 days of on-hill training with academic study halls and dryland training at OMS and 2 days of full day on hill training. The cost is $450 for the week. Again, just wanted to give you a heads up on this – more info and sign ups to follow! Please do not email me now to sign up!
February Break Week: As a part of the regular Okemo Competition Center program, we will have training the week of February 16th with one day off dependent on weather – likely Wednesday if weather is good the whole week.  There is no extra charge for this week, but there is also no academic or dryland portion – they are just regular training days like weekends.  If your child does not have school break that week or you have to work, do not worry – it is definitely not mandatory to attend and partial week is fine.
See you this weekend!
