DEVO – Middlebury Info for OKEMO 1 + other info

Hello All,

READ CAREFULLY AND ALL THE WAY DOWN…lots of info:)!

I am still waiting to hear from Peter Cornish on hill space for Saturday, so you will have to bear with me on getting exact training times out.  There is a race on Wardance so we may have to be creative.

I did want to get you the info for Middlebury though.  OKEMO 1 is going to be racing at Middlebury on Sunday, March 7th.  This is a GS race.

Middlebury Info:
I have attached an info sheet for Middlebury that you should take a look at, but here is the important info….

The base lodge doesn’t even open until 7:30 am and they don’t like people to arrive early, so aim for a 7:35/7:45am arrival

Entry fee is $25. Please bring exact change or a check made payable to Middlebury Ski Club.

Registration will work a little differently…I need 2-3 parent volunteers to help me because at 7:45 am I am going to have to get all of our bibs and tickets.  They want us to then collect the money for them and return the money and any unused bibs.  So please email me if you are willing to help.  It shouldn’t take too long.

We will meet the kids outside of the base lodge to go for free runs and course inspection at 8:30 am.  The first run doesn’t start until 10 AM and the second run will start almost immediately after the first.

Directions:  Take 100 North like you are going to Killington.  Take a left at RT 4.  Just past the access road to Killington Rt. 100 splits off to the right.  Take this right to stay on Rt. 100.  You will go through the town of Pittsfield and after another 5 miles or so you will come to a fork in the road.  Stay to the Left (almost actually a left hand turn) to stay on Rt. 100.  Follow this for another 10-12 miles or so and you will come to the town of Hancock.  Take a left onto Rt 125.  This will take you all of the way to the Middlebury Snowbowl.  It will be on your left after climbing up a big hill on a windy road.  The trip take about 1 hour – 1 hour ten minutes from Ludlow.  Keep in mind that the Snow Bowl is technically in Hancock, not in Middlebury and so you don’t go there like you would go to the town of Middlebury or the college.

Sunday Training for Okemo 2:
Times TBD based on hill space, but definitely either 8:30-10am/11-1pm or 8:30-10:30am/12-2pm.

Friday, March 12th:
We will be training on Friday, March 12th (exact times TBD).  This is just meant to be a fun pump the kids up kind of day in preparation for Finals the next day!  If your kids can spare the day of school (and you can skip work!), plan on bringing your child up early for the weekend.  Exact details coming next week, but we will definitely have some GS training this day.

Finals – Saturday, March 13th:
You should already know from the season schedule, but mark your calendars for DEVO Finals at Quechee if you haven’t already!  To clarify, your child need not qualify.  All Mid-Vermont Ross (DEVO) racers go to this and it is a really fun day for your child to get to go up against all of their main competition from the year.  Plus, we really have to perform so we can take the boot (the one with the wood platform haha) home for the summer!!!  I will, as per usual, send out all of the details next week.

Pico Sunburst Open March 14th:
I know it is the day after finals and it is at the end of a long season, but if you are a glutton for punishment (haha) like I am, join me for a super fun day at the Pico Sunburst Open.  It is a Dual Panel SL event and there are two runs in the morning that qualify your child for the elimination round in the afternoon – complete with snowmobile rides to the top of the course!  I took a bunch of kids last year and they had an absolute blast!  As it stands now, I think the race is open, but it will fill up fast.  Email me and let me know if your child would like to go.  Please be sure that they can attend because unlike a regular race, I will have to pull them from the running order if they aren’t going to make it, or owe the $35 entry fee.  Again, exact details will come out next week, but email me now to reserve your child’s spot.  As of now, I will take the first 30 to email me….and then I will email those names in in the order I received them to try to get the spots.

Ok well I will see you all on Saturday!

Thanks,
Mariel
